A massive hit of the 1980s, Dirty Dancing catapulted Patrick Swayze to international heartthrob status, and his iconic dance move as Johnny Castle cemented him in the hall of fame in cinematic history.
The rest of the romantic drama's cast, including Jennifer Grey, who played Patrick's leading lady, Baby Houseman, soared to fame and enjoyed illustrious careers in the spotlight before some of them sought solace in a more private existence.
One such star was Jane Brucker. Her role as Baby's sister, Lisa Houseman, allowed her to score acting parts in a few other Hollywood hits, such as Stealing Home and Bloodhounds of Broadway.
Despite embarking on a path to a long-lasting movie-making career, Jane ultimately left the spotlight in her rearview mirror and chose instead to settle down and raise a family far from the Catskills' Kellerman's Mountain House.
What did Jane Brucker do after Dirty Dancing's release?
In 1987, when Dirty Dancing was first released, Jane was 29 years old and enjoyed notoriety for playing Baby's older sister, who wore a bikini and sang 'Hula Hana' for a performance at the holiday camp's talent show.
During an interview in 2022, Jane reflected on her role in the cult classic and told Entertainment Weekly: "In the screening when the scene started, the audience started cracking up and applauding.
"I went, 'Whoa!' They knew what was coming, and they laughed and showed appreciation. Before that moment in the screening, I thought, 'Well, I had a nice little part in a movie once, big deal.' But when that piano started, and everybody started laughing, I was like, 'They noticed!'"
Originally from Virginia, Jane, now 67, went on to star in 1988's Stealing Home, and landed a starring role in the medical TV drama, Doctor Doctor, a year later.
She also appeared in Bloodhounds of Broadway as Charlotte in 1989 and Dishdogz in 2005, alongside a string of one-episode cameos in the early 2000s.
Jane's big step back
After her acting career, Jane, who went to school with Bruce Willis, decided to venture behind the scenes and started writing scripts instead of learning lines.
She became a Hollywood screenwriter and started a new life for herself in Los Angeles with her first husband, Miami Vice actor Brian O’Connor and welcomed a daughter, Sally, who is now 37.
After finalising her divorce from Brian in 1993, following seven years of marriage, Jane married her new lover, photographer Raul Vega, in November 2001. The couple welcomed a daughter, Rachel, two years later in 2003.
