Annie Potts isn't one to give up on love, trying marriage three times before she found her perfect match.

The '80s star, known for Ghostbusters and Pretty in Pink, first married when she was just 20 years old, tying the knot with Steven Hartley, then Greg Antonacci, followed by Scott Senechal.

After her third divorce, Annie admitted she was "done" with marriage. "I was sort of done. It was like, 'Why did I think I needed somebody else?' I was totally self-sufficient and taking care of myself and happy about it. I had my son in tow, and life was good," she told Glamour.

However, fate had other ideas as Annie met her fourth husband, James Hayman, in 1990, and the couple has been together ever since.

Steven Hartley

At age 20, Annie married her first husband, her college sweetheart, Steven Hartley. They were together for a year before tying the knot on August 26, 1973.

Not long after their wedding, the couple was involved in a horrific car accident in New Mexico that left them both severely injured after their car was demolished when it was struck by two drivers who were drag racing.

Steven lost a leg, and Annie broke nearly every bone below her waist, resulting in severe, ongoing arthritis and numerous surgeries, including a knee replacement and an ankle replacement.

They divorced in January 1978.

Not long after her divorce from Steven, Annie married her second husband, The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire actor Greg Antonacci.

The couple wed on June 21, 1978, but were only married for a short time, separating on April 5, 1979, before their divorce was finalized in 1980.

Greg went on to marry actress Lynda Costanzo in 1981, and they were together until his death on September 20, 2017, at age 70.

Annie married her third husband, assistant director and producer Scott Senechal, known for Natural Born Killers and Thelma & Louise, in 1981.

The couple was married for eight years, her longest marriage up to that point, but they split in 1989. Scott died on December 25, 2025.

During their relationship, they welcomed a son, Clay, who followed his parents into the entertainment industry, becoming a writer and producer who has worked for DreamWorks, FX, Prime Video, and Netflix.

The fourth time was the charm for Annie, as she has been married to her husband, television producer, director, and cinematographer James Hayman, since 1990.

The couple met on the set of the film Breaking the Rules and bonded over the making of the movie. "He was very inclusive to me about his process and made me interested in the work he was doing," she recalled to Glamour, adding, "I'd always felt people were like, 'You don't need to know about that stuff' ... but I was interested in it. So we meshed over that."

Annie and James have been happily married for over 35 years, welcoming two sons, James 'Doc' Hayman, born in 1992, and Isaac 'Harry' Hayman, born in 1995.

Marriage to James

Annie said she knew James was special because of his instant bond with her son, Clay, telling Closer in 2018: "Because right away he loved my son. I had an eight-year-old when I met him. When you fall in love with somebody who comes into your surroundings when you have a kid already, [they] have to love both of us. He was so willing to do that."

She added: "We were instantly a family."

From 2014, Annie and James were in a long-distance relationship while he was working as a producer/director on NCIS: New Orleans, and she was back and forth between New Orleans and LA, where she was filming Young Sheldon.

"One of the reasons that our relationship works long distance is that we're both workaholics," she said on the Really Famous podcast in 2019.

In 2019, the couple bought their home in the Toluca Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, which Annie renovated using elements inspired by New Orleans, with James permanently moving in after NCIS wrapped in 2021.
